A tip for auto completion using the TAB Key in a dos window.

If you have used Unix/Linux flavor of some type the one thing that most of us like is the use of the tab key to bring up the rest for the file/folder.  Well I guess Microsoft liked it as well because they added it to win2k.  To implement it you have to edit the registry I am certain that everyone has done that before ;-).

 

Navigate to the reg key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Command Processor

then edit the DWORD value CompletionChar and place a 9 in the value.

You do not have to reboot as it will take affect straight away.  It has it's better points and some bad as well, it does not complete commands, it does cycle thought all of the files folders that start with what ever characters you type first and you can go backwards by holding down the "shift key" and then pressing the tab.  I am certain that everyone will find allot more out there as well please let us know so we can mention them here.
